14 Propaganda Techniques Fox "News" Uses to Brainwash Americans

Dr. Cynthia Boaz | 03-07-2011 20:42 | Analysis | Other Press | Terror War | Sheffield | World

There is nothing more sacred to the maintenance of democracy than a free press. Access to comprehensive, accurate and quality information is essential to the manifestation of Socratic citizenship - the society characterized by a civically engaged, well-informed and socially invested populace. Thus, to the degree that access to quality information is willfully or unintentionally obstructed, democracy itself is degraded.

Ten Years Of Media Lens - Operation Rheinübung

Media Lens | 09-06-2011 14:35 | Analysis | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Or: Our Problem With Mainstream Dissidents

Working on Media Lens has given us ten years of first-hand experience of just how tightly discussion can be controlled in an ostensibly democratic society. No matter how carefully we have formulated our questions, no matter how politely we have delivered them, we have been branded angry, irrational, unworthy of attention.

Nine countries gather to create Latin American Union of News Agencies

ULAN | 06-06-2011 19:27 | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Other Press | Sheffield | World

News agencies from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay and Venezuela decided to join efforts to create the Latin American Union of News Agencies (ULAN, Spanish abbreviation), aimed at facing negative campaigns undertaken by communication monopolies from the United States and Europe.

“The main element for us is the possibility of building an information reference for the whole continent, capable of looking at the reality of the Latin American and Caribbean nations with our own eyes, not with the eyes of the North or Europe,” Fernandez said.

First casualty of war

Margaret Kimberley | 13-05-2011 21:46 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Metro, 3 May 2011
The past month has been a difficult one for anyone who wants to be at all knowledgeable about our world. First it was necessary to avoid the endless and endlessly useless reporting of the British royal wedding. No sooner had that media monstrosity ended when we were told that the United States government had succeeded in killing Osama bin Laden. The orgy of hatred and rancid triumphalism was immediate and a sickening sight to behold. Crowds of rabid Americans descended upon “ground zero” the world trade center site, to wave flags and chant as if they were the winning football team.

Osama and the ghosts of September 11: “Proof that Obama is lying”

Michael C. Ruppert | 12-05-2011 21:18 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Los Angeles Times, 7 May 2011
You see people will accept lies if their lives get better. As their lives get worse, they will inevitably ask questions. And as their lives disintegrate, they will start looking for both answers and suspects. That was and is the swimming pool full of gasoline that Barack Obama is lighting matches in.

If the United States of America does not immediately announce a massive drawdown in Afghanistan, the world will keep asking questions about OBL because our lives will be getting worse, not better, by the day. And every time Mr. Obama opens his mouth about 9-11, he pours more gasoline into the pool and asks for another box of matches.

It was not my choice. Barack Obama has placed 9-11 back on the table again. Mainstream media, of course, can't say Jack Diddly about this theater of the absurd, even though they’ve been cornered into asking a few pseudo-hardball questions. They are, after all, criminally culpable for the endorsement and concealment of something they damn well knew was a lie, murder, and high treason ten years ago.

Interview with David Edwards from Media Lens

Interview by Sam Walby | 10-05-2011 18:18 | Analysis | Culture | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Media Lens is a media analysis organisation set up by David Edwards and David Cromwell in 2001 to highlight the shortcomings of mainstream media reporting in Britain. Sending out regular email alerts to its subscribers, it questions the coverage of key topics by ‘impartial’ sources like the BBC, as well as traditionally liberal publications like the Independent. Ultimately, it hopes to encourage members of the public to challenge journalists and editors over the way they report. After publishing a couple of Media Lens alerts in Now Then in the past few months, we spoke to David Edwards about the venture and how it got off the ground on the month of its 10th anniversary.

New Bin Laden tapes appear fake like earlier ones

Stephen Lendman | 10-05-2011 16:04 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Time's special issue on the death of Osama bin Laden, 20 May 2011
This article highlights a shameless Washington effort to compound one lie with others. Ad nauseam accounts continue, contributing to war on terror fear mongering that's changed America dramatically post-9/11 disturbingly. It suggests worse yet to come, including perhaps more war besides others now raging, while popular needs go begging.

Despite poll data showing opposition, they continue because people focus more on bread and circuses than activism, the only way to achieve constructive change. It's high time opinions became anger enough to significantly make a difference. It better because the alternative is too dire to imagine.

Dancing on the grave of 9/11. Osama and “the Big Lie”

Larry Chin | 07-05-2011 16:46 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

The Obama administration and the corporate media are concocting an ever-more elaborate and spectacular theater around the “heroic” murder of the CIA intelligence myth/CIA asset Osama bin Laden. Not content to simply to exploit the 9/11 atrocity for political gain, the administration is heaping new layers of lie and cover-up to the original crime.

Lies, damn lies, and Bin Laden's death

Stephen Lendman | 03-05-2011 18:18 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Washington Post, 2 May 2011
Calling Osama Bin Laden "the mastermind of the most devastating attack on American soil in modern times and the most hunted man in the world," President Obama announced his death Sunday night, declaring "justice has been done."

Highlighting 9/11, he painstakingly discussed everything but the truth. America's media repeated it. Celebratory crowds in front of the White House, in Times Square, and at "ground zero" cheered it past midnight, mindlessly believing a lie.

Clear evidence showed bin Laden died years ago, likely in December 2001. However, reporting it was concealed to pursue America's "war on terror."

As a result, "Enemy Number One" was used to stoke fear as pretext for imperial wars on Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Libya, perhaps others now planned, and numerous proxy ones in Somalia, Yemen, Bahrain, Palestine, Central Africa, Colombia, and elsewhere.

Britain, the traitor nation: Media disinformation and crimes against humanity

David Halpin | 25-04-2011 11:43 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

The Guardian, 22 April 2011
The plans for the evisceration of Libya were long laid by the vultures. The myxoma virus of the blackest of black propaganda is being squirted into the nervous systems of homo non-sapiens to allow many to believe the process is benign. 'We are aiding revolution and saving Arabs from themselves'. The State Broadcaster leads the mega-wattage and is fed by serried ranks of able liars in the FCO, the Downing Street Media Unit and the Ministry of 'Defence'. Lying has is now our heavy industry in blood soaked Albion.

The actual axis of evil is very busy. One pole, the dominant one, is in Tel Aviv. The other pole is Washington. In the middle is London, and now Paris. London gives the axis propriety with all the flummery. It also gives its cunning and its historical knowledge of imperialism. The power shifts backward and forward along that axis as busily as those jets carrying the psychopaths who pull the triggers.

Al Jazeera's war on Gaddafi

Stephen Lendman | 24-04-2011 18:52 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Based on its recent Libyan and Gulf states reporting (or lack thereof), Qatar-based Al Jazeera's credibility appears extremely compromised. Overall, its Libya misreporting has been deceitful, functioning more as a propaganda arm for Washington, NATO and insurgents, indistinguishable from US and other western media, representing imperial conquest, colonization, and pillaging of another non-belligerent country.
