The website  http://www.greensforbuses.co.uk/ has been launched as part of the Sheffield Green Party's campaign for Quality Bus Contracts.
The campaign was launched on Saturday February 4 2006 with leafleting at bus stops in the city centre.
Quality Bus Contracts are a way to achieve a regulated bus service for Sheffield and the rest of South Yorkshire.

“There’s no F in Bus” reflects the feelings of thousands of passengers in Sheffield who are fed up of waiting for buses that don’t turn up or services that have been cut or changed. A pensioner from Arbourthorne, where the No. 6 bus has just been cut said “I’ve lived on this estate for 70 years. Hitler couldn’t stop our bus but Brandon Jones (South Yorkshire First commercial manager) has!”

BNP wins second place in local byelection

The Britisch National Party managed to get over 30% in a local byelection in Derbyshire. The party came second with just 159 votes behind Labour in Heanor and Loscoe in Derbyshire's Amber Valley borough.

The BNP seems to get more active in the Midlands region, with Notts Indymedia recently reporting on a wave of abuse towards the organisers of a community arts event in Coalville, North East Leicestershire.

Park Authority halts quarrying at Backdale in the Peak District

Peak Park have served a stop notice, effective today 30 Jan, on Merriman who are quarrying at Backdale. National Park minister Jim Knight has visited the site today and pledged his support. Merriman have threatened to open two more sites if stopped at Backdale.
