Author of a range of books, including Climate Change, Carbon Trading and Civil Society, Looting Africa: The Economics of Exploitation, and Walk left, Talk Right: South Africa’s Frustrated Global Reforms, Bond is a long-time advocate for radical solutions to the climate and social catastrophe wraught by global capitalism.

Lauren Carroll Harris spoke to Bond at the conference about responses to climate change.

Sheffield Coach to the Climate Camp

Get to the Climate Camp by coach: As well as making traveling easy, its also nice for people who are going alone to meet people on the way. We are sharing the coach with Leeds folk. Our bus to the camp is on Sunday 3rd, departing Sheffield at 11.30.

Our bus home again is on Sunday 10th, departs 3pm from the camp and we hope to have it arrive at around 8.30opm traffic permitting.

We are selling tickets for £15 single waged and £10 single unwaged. Please book your ticket as soon as possible, as we need to know numbers. Email

Times Newspapers threaten Media Lens with legal and police action

Media Lens have felt the need to amend their 25th June alert, Selling the Fireball - George Bush and Iran following "repeated threats of legal and police action from Alastair Brett, legal manager of News International’s Times Newspapers on June 28 and July 2". This has now been picked up by The Guardian, in todays issue Peter Wilby has an article titled, publish and be damned. The first attempt to evict the occupiers of Bodge House on 30th June was a spectacular flop. The registered owner of the site is Harworth Mining International Limited. The outfit applying for a possession order are Harworth Estates (Agricultural Land -Trashing Of) Limited. OK, we added the "Trashing Of" bit to that otherwise bucolic title, but otherwise report what is alleged to be just a change of name yer honour. Their problem was they hadn't bothered to give the court any actual proof of this supposed change of name.

James Hansen's Appeal to the G8 on Climate Change

Later today James Hansen will address the the United Nations University, slides attached, and he has also written a letter to Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda of Japan, also attached, which contains the following dire warning, which, of course won't be heeded -- "business as usual at any cost" appears to be the motto the worlds "leaders" and this is what they intend to follow even if it leads to planetary death.
