UG#529 - Unite and Conquer 1 (The Realisation of Unity)

Robin Upton | 11-12-2010 23:27 | Anti-militarism | Culture | Globalisation | Sheffield

Audio
This week we question the reductionist science of the discrete and separate self. Our opening talk, by Paul Bloom, looks at research into the human moral sense, and presents findings which suggests that children even only a few months old are possessed of some kind of moral sense. We follow this up with a heartfelt talk from peace activist Brian Willson, on the need for US culture to break out of its self-imposed box and relate healthily with the world at large. Our major talk, by evolutionary biologist and gift economy activist, Elisabet Sahtouris, is a wide ranging one. She directly challenges reductionist models of evolution, preferring a holistic view, concluding that humanity is undergoing a change akin to the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly.

Wikileaks and media disinformation: North Korea, Iran and Belarus

Gearóid Ó Colmáin | 08-12-2010 22:12 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Much is being written in the mainstream press about the internet whistle-blowing website Wikileaks. But the interpretation and significance of those Wikileaks stories disseminated throughout the corporate media must be subjected to careful and critical analysis.

There is little that is particularly shocking about the recent Wikileaks. What is striking about many of the latest leaks is their conformity to the lies and disinformation regularly diffused by the mainstream media.

The upshot of this is that, while exposés of American war crimes should damage America’s imperial ambitions, other ‘leaks’ could actually serve the opposite purpose, especially when they are uncritically reported as ‘revelations’. In this article we are going to look at two examples of how Wikileaks stories could be used to further a US imperialist agenda.

False flags a fluttering: The history of deception and the London 7/7 bombings

Tom Secker | 07-12-2010 22:42 | Anti-militarism | Terror War | Sheffield

We know from history that there is a wide range of possible deceptions taking place about what happened on 7/7. In the absence of forensic evidence of precisely what happened and why, we are left with an ever-shifting story that conveniently fits the policy of the ongoing War on Terror. However, just because some terrorist attacks are inside jobs does not necessarily mean that 7/7 was an inside job, even though the event has been used to suit a manipulating agenda. It is entirely possible that 7/7 was a false flag operation, but it is also entirely possible that the way in which it has been used as a psychological warfare operation is merely exploitative after the fact. The only way we can ever truly know is through the disclosure of evidence and information pertaining to what happened, something that has been jealously guarded by the authorities since day one.

Mysterious "laptop documents". Using fake intelligence to justify war on Iran

Michel Chossudovsky | 27-11-2010 19:37 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

The US stance in the UN Security Council, has in part based on alleged intelligence documents which provide "evidence" of Iran's nuclear weapons program.

A recent article by investigative reporter Gareth Porter confirms unequivocally that the mysterious laptop documents are fake.

We are dealing with a clear case of fake intelligence comparable to that presented by Colin Powell in February 2003 on Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction. The fake intelligence presented to the UN Security Council was used as a justification for the March 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Will the US antiwar movement confront Washington's plans to wage a pre-emptive nuclear war against Iran based on fake intelligence?

President Gul: NATO missile plan is in line with our expectations

dandelion salad | 25-11-2010 14:05 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Obama, Gul, Papandreou and Cameron, NATO Summit, Lisbon, 19 November 2010
Ever since the November 2008 US Presidential elections, Turkey’s political establishment has been pretending to have an anti-imperialist stance against the threat of a possible war against Iran.

Actually, the signing of NATO’s new Strategic Concept by Turkey and all the other members of NATO at the November 2010 Lisbon Summit was the clearest indication of Turkey’s total capitulation to NATO and Israeli war plans against Iran.

Barack Obama, the latest rotating imperator of the first global empire, will arrive in Lisbon on November 19 to receive the plaudits of 27 North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies and secure their continued fealty on issues ranging from the war in Afghanistan to a continental interceptor missile system, the continued deployment of American tactical nuclear weapons in Europe, participation in the Pentagon’s cyber warfare plans and expanded military missions in the planet’s south and east.

Fake anti-war activism. The “humanitarian road” towards an all out nuclear war?

Michel Chossudovsky | 06-11-2010 19:04 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | Sheffield | World

Pentagon's Nuclear Posture Review Report, April 2010
While the danger of an all out war on Iran is a matter of concern, it is by no means a priority for the US, Canadian and European antiwar movements. In the US, there are very few antiwar events focussing on US-Israeli threats directed against Iran. Many in the antiwar movement, while condemning the US, continue to believe that Iran constitutes a threat and that the solution is "regime change". The funding of NGOs (which are constituent members of major antiwar collectives) by corporate tax exempt charities and foundations, has also contributed to weakening the stance of antiwar activism in relation to Iran.

America threatens Iran: The anti-war movement's trojan horse

Phil Wilayto | 31-10-2010 10:30 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | Sheffield | World

After a period in which defending Iran hasn't been very high on the agenda of most U.S. anti-war activists, there are now two petition campaigns opposing war and sanctions against Iran.

One effort is led by a New York City-based organization more known for defending Cuban “dissidents” who openly take U.S. money to try to undermine the Cuban Revolution. The other was launched by an independent Tehran-based organization formed to promote Iranian solidarity with Cuba, Venezuela and other progressive countries in Latin America.

Curiously, it's the first campaign that seems to be getting the most support.

MI6 chief: We need intelligence operations to stop Iran developing nuclear weapo

MI6 Chief Sir John Sawers delivers his 'Britain's Secret Frontline' speech

Iran’s "green wave" opposition and its ties to global geopolitics

Darius Mahdi Nazemroaya | 27-10-2010 16:54 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Sheffield | World

Politics makes for strange bedfellows. Within the framework of the events leading to the Green Wave was a face-off within the Iranian elite between one side which wanted to preserve current policies and another that was formed by an alliance between Iranian business interests and civil liberties organizations. In the second camp of Iranian capital and civil liberties, the former group hid behind the latter group. This alliance between Iranian capital and groups demanding greater civil liberties may come as a surprise to some, but it is neither a historical nor political anomaly. Many movements and revolutions have been configured through such alliances.

Ongoing Iran War Preparations? Arabian Sea: Center Of West's 21st Century War

Rick Rozoff | 27-10-2010 07:07 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Sheffield | World

The monumental expansion of arms sales and the buildup of naval and air power in the Arabian Sea region are unprecedented. They are also alarming to the highest degree.
The West, America and its NATO allies, are escalating military operations across the area, from Asia to Africa to the Middle East.

Why 9-11 Truth has won - The coming of the flood

Allen L. Jasson | 26-10-2010 18:48 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | Sheffield | World

I recently wrote in MWC News arguing the case for Why 9-11 Truth Has Won, due primarily to the weight of irrefutable scientific proof of the two key elements that evidence controlled demolition of the three WTC Towers – free fall collapse and the presence of thermite, explaining the total absence of structural resistance. For this and for other reasons the successful demand by the 9-11 Truth Movement and others for a new, wider, proper investigation is only a matter of time. The flood would come. The recent political squabble in Australia represents further breaching of the dam wall that will bring that flood.

Australian Union President, Kevin Bracken – A true working class hero!

John Bursill | 24-10-2010 20:41 | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Sheffield | World

Secretary of the Maritime Union of Australia Kevin Bracken
Secretary of Maritime Union of Australia Kevin Bracken has received literally thousands of thank you's from around the world for his brave stance for 9/11 Truth! Standing his ground even after being directly verbally bashed by the Prime Minister of Australia Julia Gillard saying he was "stupid and wrong" and having his own leadership comrades buckle at the knees if the face of unfounded ridicule. Rather than running for cover Kevin with his chin in the air has reiterated his position defying any to debate him on the issue! As usual all media presstitutes have refused, as there is obviously "no debate to have". It seems that the vast majority of the public disagree and would like to see such a debate but none of the so called "journalists" dare to tread such a path.
