map of the new Middle East

The US led war in the broader Middle East Central Asian region has the purpose of gaining control over more than sixty percent of the world's supplies of oil and natural gas. The Anglo-American oil giants also seek to gain control over oil and gas pipeline routes out of the region.

The Liquid Terror Bomb Mastermind - Aquitted

C | 17-12-2006 00:06 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Terror War | Sheffield | World

Rashid Rauf, the proclaimed mastermind behind the "liquid terror bomb" plot from the summer of 2006 is not to be proscuted for terror offensives due to a lack of evidence:

Pakistan drops terrorism charges against key suspect in Heathrow bomb plot

On December 13, in an extraordinary turn of events, a court in Pakistan dropped terrorism charges against British-born Rashid Rauf.

Rauf is the alleged “ringleader” of the most infamous terror plot ever apparently uncovered in Britain—the plan to explode a number of transatlantic airlines en route from London’s Heathrow airport.

Details of the court hearing are extremely limited. But according to reports, a judge at an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpinidi said that the case against Rauf did not “fall into the category of terrorism.”

Rauf’s lawyer, Hashmat Habib, said no evidence had been provided to back up claims that his client was part of a conspiracy to hijack airplanes, and the judge agreed to strike out the two charges against Rauf relating to terrorism. “That practically means that Rashid Rauf has been acquitted of charges relating to terrorism,” Habib said.

Whose War on Whose Terror? Reclaiming Our Rights

Nafeez Ahmed | 09-12-2006 18:20 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Repression | Terror War | London | Sheffield

Yesterday, I was fortunate to have been one of the opening plenary speakers at the 'Reclaiming Our Rights' conference at the Human Rights and Social Justice Institute at the London Metropolitan University, organized mainly by the Campaign Against Criminalising Communities (CAMPACC). It was an excellent conference bringing together some of the leading dissident organizations involved in political activism against the anti-terror laws. Speakers included people like Craig Murray, former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan; Mark Thomas, political comedian and journalist; Gareth Pierce, leading human rights lawyer; Brian Haw, the permanent Parliament Square protestor; among many others.

A very interesting overview of of the US/UK imperial aims and methods from 1945 to the present and the crisis that it is currently facing. This presentation, and the questions and answer session is an hour and 40 mins long but it is well worth listening to.

Energy depletion & the US descent into fascism

Dale Allen Pfeiffer | 25-10-2006 12:21 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Sheffield | World

In October of 2001, a little over a month after 9/11, I wrote an article titled The Background is Oil. The hypothesis laid out in this article was that the 2000 US presidential election resulted in a coup of neocons and oil interests who had taken control of the US in order to prepare for the coming peak and decline of world oil production. Furthermore, this coup engineered the 9/11 terrorist attacks to further their own interests.

Nuclear Strike on Iran Is Still on the Agenda

Jorge Hirsh | 17-10-2006 08:11 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Ecology | Sheffield | World

No nuclear country is likely to intervene when the U.S. uses nuclear weapons against Iran, so there is no military deterrent. The U.S. has now achieved vast nuclear superiority and is about to demonstrate to the world that its $5 trillion nuclear arsenal is not "unusable."

US vs. Iran - Is An Attack Inevitable?

i18n | 10-10-2006 10:37 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Sheffield | World

Following is an article about the looming US (and Israel? and UK?) attack on Iran by Dr. Abbas Bakhtiar. This is a story being ignored by the mainstream media -- most people seem to be in denial that this war could be launched later this month.

The possibility that the Republicians might loose control of Congress on 7th November in the US and their talk of an October suprise to ensure that this doesn't happen has led to much speculation, including the possibility that a 2nd 9/11 (for example a dirty bomb or nuke being let off somewhere like NYC -- NYC is the only US city to have had a radiation mapping exercise conducted and this data is just what you need for doing a before and after study of the effects of a nuke...) might be set up and then used to justify a massive shock and awe bombing campaign against Iran that could include the use of nukes. Of course this is speculation -- there is nothing I'd like better than to be wrong.

If this were to happen before 7th November the election might not even happen and if it did it could ensure a victory for the Republicians (though things don't always go as they plan, eg the election in Spain after the Madrid bombings).

It is essential that people across America and around the World take cognizance of the dangers of a Middle East war directed against Iran and act decisively to challenge the US military agenda and reverse the tide of war.

The World is at the crossroads of the most serious crisis in modern history. The US has embarked on a military adventure, "a long war", which threatens the future of humanity.

This article documents recent developments, focusing on military deployment and preparations in the event of a US led war on Iran. This text follows a number of earlier reports published by Global Research pertaining to the War on Iran (See Iran dossier, Nuclear War dossier, Lebanon dossier )
