Democracy Now, 9/11 and Structural Engineers

Audio Democracy Now!

Democracy Now!, an alternative news site in the US (Wikipedia's Democracy Now! page) has been challenged to a debate on 9/11 since it's host and co-founder, Amy Goodman said in an interview with David Ray Griffin in 2004:

AMY GOODMAN: Can you name an expert you have relied on, for example on the issue of the world trade center towers going down, expert in structural engineering who has said it is impossible for the explanation to be the planes hit, and the fires caused the towers to go down?

AMY GOODMAN: Name just one. Name just one structural engineering expert who said it is not feasible that the planes caused the towers to go down.

And this same view has been expressed here:

"There is not one structural engineer in the whole world that thinks the towers couldn't have collapsed because of the impact of the planes, alongside the fires causing the steel trusses to lose their structural integrity (not melt that is a red herring, nobody makes that claim)."

Now a Structural Engineer, Charles N. Pegelow, has come out to question the official story, read on for a open letter, Dear Democracy Now!

1 SEPTEMBER - INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST THE ICELANDIC STATE AND ALCOA

Jenny | 25-08-2006 13:33 | Ecology | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Sheffield

The Icelandic highlands are the last great expanse of true wilderness left in Western Europe. Now the country's hydroelectric potential has been targeted by multinational corporations, who intend to establish large-scale heavy industry in these hitherto pristine hinterlands. These multinational vandals - willingly helped by the Icelandic government - are about to produce an environmental catastrophe of unprecedented proportions.

US-Israeli war aim is to annihilate Lebanon

WSWS Editorial Board | 05-08-2006 08:47 | Lebanon War 2006 | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Sheffield | World

The sharp escalation of the attacks against Lebanon Friday have made it abundantly clear that the objective of this US-Israeli war of aggression is to demolish Lebanon as an independent and sovereign country.

Lebanon, Syria, Iran & The Coming Imperialist Re-Division of the World

Steve Masterson | 02-08-2006 17:38 | Lebanon War 2006 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Sheffield

London, 1st August 2006

The sheer brutality of the butchery of civilians by Israeli WMD –
bombs and fighter planes provided by the United States – on Lebanon
is firstly a warning to the rest of the world from the United
States: `accept US global domination, or else'; and secondly, it is
the beginning of a serious struggle for all-out control over Middle-
East, Caspian Basin and Central Asian oil and gas. It is not the
puppet Israel but the US itself who sets the tone of this
purposefully brutal war, a war which opens up a qualitative change
in US aggression and inter-imperialist conflict, a period that will
draw the whole world into intensifying horrors and suffering. At the
same time this new period opens a large window for the dramatic re-
appearance of world-wide mass class struggle bringing workers and
youth back into the centre-stage of global politics.

The War on Lebanon and the Battle for Oil

BTC Pipeline Route

Is there a relationship between the bombing of Lebanon and the inauguration of the World's largest strategic pipeline, which will channel more a million barrels of oil a day to Western markets?

Virtually unnoticed, the inauguration of the Ceyhan-Tblisi-Baku (BTC) oil pipeline, which links the Caspian sea to the Eastern Mediterranean, took place on the 13th of July, at the very outset of the Israeli sponsored bombings of Lebanon.

The Real Enemy

Joe Quinn | 25-07-2006 16:03 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Sheffield | World

At present, many writers in the alternative media are feeling extremely angry, depressed and frustrated at what is happening in Palestine and Lebanon. Despite hundreds of editorials and essays eloquently decrying Israeli aggression and provocation and spelling out the very obvious reason for the long-standing violence in the Middle East, Israel continues its murderous rampage, killing almost 70 Lebanese civilians yesterday. Yesterday's attacks involved Israeli bombing of entire Lebanese villages, such as Srifa in the south west of Lebanon where Israeli F-16 jets, supplied free of charge by the US government, destroyed 15 houses, killed at least 20, and wounded at least 30, men women, young and old alike. The truly horrifying thing however is that the inhabitants of the villages were fleeing on the orders of the Israeli government itself, yet as the villagers attempted to leave in their cars and vans, they were targeted by Israeli jets and blown to pieces...

The Welfare Reform Bill: A move to a 21st Century version of the Workhouse?

The government is targeting millions of disabled people with the threat of losing up to 30 pounds per week if the claimant does not comply with their plans. The proposed replacement to Incapacity Benefit (IB), the Employment Support Allowance (ESA), will only rise above £56 a week (JSA levels) if the claimant meets very strict requirements.

Michel Chossudovsky

Michel Chossudovsky, author of the international bestseller America's War on Terrorism, personally graced the jam-packed local launch of his latest book held at the Asian Center at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City last June 24. During the launch, he gave a lecture about the imminent danger of a U.S.-made nuclear catastrophe amid the Bush administration's preparations for war with Iran.

Joel Garduce of Center for Anti-Imperialist Studies (CAIS) caught up with the director of the Centre for Research in Globalization (CRG) during his short weekend stay in the Philippines and conducted the following interview.

Manufacturing “terror” as a means of intimidation

repost | 28-06-2006 12:54 | Globalisation | Repression | Terror War | Sheffield

Following is an article from wsws.org which exposes the terrorist threat in the USA to be a government organised fraud — in all the terror cases the article discusses the key organiser of the plots has been a government agent.

There is also ample evidence to suggest that this is also the case in the UK, see for example these articles from The Times, Al-Qaeda cleric exposed as an MI5 double agent, Police tracking bug found in 7/7 mastermind’s car and 7/7 ringleader was under CIA surveillance.

Why the Dollar Bubble is about to Burst

Steve Masterson | 14-06-2006 15:28 | Analysis | Globalisation | Sheffield

London - 24 May, 2006

The Voice (issue 264 - 11th May) ran an article beginning, "Iran has really gone and done it now. No, they haven't sent their first nuclear sub in to the Persian Gulf. They are about to launch something much more deadly -- next week the Iran Bourse will open to trade oil, not in dollars but in euros." This apparently insignificant event has consequences far greater for the US people, indeed all for us all, than is imaginable.

Manifesto of the Third Camp against US Militarism and Islamic Terrorism

MN | 31-05-2006 13:45 | Globalisation | Repression | Social Struggles | Terror War | Sheffield | World

The present conflict between the Western governments and the Islamic Republic of Iran can have disastrous human, political and social consequences. The terrible experience of Iraq has shown to all the catastrophes that can result from economic sanctions and a military attack. Deterioration of living conditions, economic plight, death, destruction and displacement of people, and increased repression by the Islamic regime, would be some of the immediate consequences of economic sanctions or a military attack on Iran. This policy would unleash Islamic terrorism on a regional scale and escalate it internationally.
