It has almost got to the point of no return, and the only way that I can think of, that complete chaos can be avoided is if the Police find some pre-text to forbid the racist demo from going ahead and dis-bar the BPP from Leeds city centre on that day. (and crucially, let it be known that this is what has happened).

I plan to be in Leeds on that day - let me know if there is any info that I could obtain that could be of use.

Although it is generally accepted that the West Yorkshire Police lost control of the the demo at one point, and up to 500 protesters took charge of the streets of Leeds for a brief period of time, the police were by and large, well behaved, except for one incident when a mature police officer assaulted a 16 year old boy by grabbing him by the scruff of the collar and shaking him - not too serious I know, but I have the entire incident captured on video.

I am in the process of creating a video of the day to publish on 'you-tube', however I will not publish this incident at this stage, for tactical reasons

THE REASON THAT I AM CONTACTING YOU NOW

is that I have now made contact with the Leeds anti-fascist "Anti-Fa" cell. ( www.antifa.org.uk ) and I am now privy to various bits of information that may of of value to the police - for example the plans for Leeds Antifa to involve and recruit the support of the Leeds United Football Club supporters group and in particular, the notorious "Leeds United Service Crew" football gang who apparently are about to declare themselves anti-fascist and against the BNP and ready to take on and fight any football team supporters, including West Ham or Glasgow Rangers (fascist/orange)

I think it is very important that this information is verified by the poster or defended by Matthew.

Someone could very easily invent something like this about someone (for whatever reason they have) to make others turn against them. Equally the information could be true, and so everyone needs to be aware for their own security.

The problem for us as readers is that we need to know whether this is information is true - maybe an explanation as to how the emails were obtained, or more proof if it is available as to how the informant was discovered?

Also, if this post is made up, then Matthew needs to speak out about it, and tell us what the truth is. He needs to explain what if any police contact he has had. If it isn't true he needs to tell us more - does he know who has done this to him / what the motive is etc...

Basically we need more information, as I am sure like many - have no way of knowing what is true.

Certain hard core AR Activists in the north had very strong suspicions over Gibbons at least 12 months ago and as a result had to go to ground , the movement suffers in more ways than one through scum like this, he came across as a pratt when he burst on to the scene from nowhere, he changed his ethics overnight after meeting a female activist. I do not think that this article needs any more speculation about whether it is true or not. Emails have been published by the ALCIU which appear to be genuine. Obviously they are not going to reveal their sources so as to protect them and keep any persons passing information on about informants anonymous.

Well - oh dear.

I can honestly say that I am not, never have been and never will be a police informant.

I am aware of the faked e-mails and I know who wrote them - they are a work of fiction. They were faked 6-8 weeks ago and used against me as a threat by someone that knew my email password they are not genuine at all - they were written at a period of time when emotions were running high, and do not contain a single sentence of truth - they are not genuine and were used to threaten me- the situation was all sorted.

If any of my actual friends wish to contact me, via email or facebook, then I can provide further details and corroboration.

I have received several messages of support from genuine friends who know that this story is a non-story, just a load of bullcrap put up by someone who is unaware of all the issues involved and thinks that they are being clever.

Well at least I know who my real friends are now - the truth will come out over a short period of time, and some people that have posted here are going to look pretty stupid. I will accept your apologies from the comment posters, but whoever posted the original story should hang their head in shame.

I will not hide, I will not go away, I am innocent of this and the truth will come out in the long run.

It is certainly interesting, and good go either way. There is no way of knowing what is genuine or not, Indymedia is open source and attracts lots of trolls, fascist or otherwise.

It may be an idea for the said groups/organisations to investigate this themselves (which I'm sure will be happening), and release a statement (not through indymedia) stating the truth.

As has been pointed out, we have no way of knowing if the claims made in this story are true or false. Matt and his partner are ethically inconsistent in many ways but I don't know if this extends to Matt being a crypto-fascist. Without much better standards of evidence I'm not going to take sides on that particular issue but as a former customer of Kyi-po I will offer a few random observations which may give an insight into their characters.

Matt and Sarah are regular visitors to the Indymedia website so it is highly improbable Matt is still unaware of this story even if he is not the person posting here as Matthew.

Some time ago (I think it was towards the end of last year) Sarah Larkins (Joint owner of Kyi-po and Matt's partner) told me that the shop was not taking enough money for them to make ends meet and that Matt had taken a second job to supplement their income. I asked her what he was doing and she said he was working as a manager at Pizza Express. I thought this odd as it seemed a very unethical thing for a vegan to be doing but had no reason to doubt her word. Either she was lying or the person posting here as Matthew is lying as both cannot be telling the truth. Someone should check this with Pizza Express as we need an answer.

You will notice from the top photograph that Kyi-po sells cigarettes. Matt and Sarah swore they would never do this as they had concluded it would be totally unethical due to the manufacturers having contracts with the likes of Covance and Huntingdon Life Sciences. So how do they justify selling them now?

A few months ago, Sarah Larkins handed a stray pit-bull / Staffordshire terrier type dog to the York dog wardens (Who are the scum of the earth) condemning him to almost certain death. Not something you would expect someone who claims to believe in animal rights to do and the main reason I stopped doing my shopping at Kyi-po.

Passing trade and tourists aside, Kyi-po's regular customers are typical of the sort of people you might reasonably expect to find frequenting a vegan food shop. Educated, middle class and broadly leftist. Just the sort of people who would be outraged by anyone expressing sympathy for the far right. Why then does Matt appear to be hanging around outside the shop in an English Defence League tee shirt? Is the photograph genuine? If so, we need some answers from Matt.

In Matt's defence I will say that on the occasions he served me in the shop he never expressed any sympathy with fascist, nationalist or racist groups. Quite the opposite. In fact, he came across as an old school left wing agitator.

I personally do not know the reason why Matt has started being a police informant, but it is somewhat apparent that he is. I do know know if it is through mental illness, his growing alcohol issues or just plain vulnerability. They are also reasons why I would suspect it is truthful about him getting involved with facism and the EDL. This is also backed up by the racist joke on his facebook profile about people in Britain not being able to speak English, something the fash use on a regular basis to back up their arguements.

Yes, people need money but there is no excuse for vegans to be working in occupations directly connected with animal abuse. We are supposed to be fighting the meat industry, not providing it with our labour. If we were to follow your logic we might as well say it is acceptable for vegans to work in fur shops, slaughterhouses or vivisection laboratories. Being vegan is about a great deal more than what one eats and demands commitment to very high standards of personal ethics.

As for eating out, I certainly wouldn't want to eat anything that had been made in a kitchen where animal products are prepared and don't feel I've missed anything having never eaten in a Pizza Express.

Sarah & Matt didn't want to sell fags and booze but none of their friends or fellow vegans in York went in their shop nor supported them , so they had no choice but to sell stuff the general public wanted, after almost 18m of resisting and having huge York city centre rent bills to pay. And in doing so, I know for a fact that by non vegans coming into their store for booze& fags were introduced to vegan food & have since started buying vegan food and saying how good it is.

They only ever tried their best with the shop but none of their friends support them , all they got was the cold shoulder & grief for opening a shop , a shop that introduces veganism to the general public!
Now their lives have been put in danger all thanks to so called friends for something that isn't even true.

Don't forget Sarah Larking's (aka Sarah Ford) role in all of this. She is the likely source of the e-mails, as stated by a previous poster. She is the only one with the necessary proximity and access to the e-mails (clearly original). She also had a motive after the 'grass' was assaulted by her and had her arrested by the police. She originally tipped off her contacts in the AR movement about Matthew telling them that he could not be trusted. Up until a couple of weeks back Gibbons was on the pay role of Pizza Express. So his girlfriend was right in one sense. As for him being a manager! you're having a laugh - front of house greeter and table seater more like - clear case of 'Delusions of Grandeur'.

I have tried to remain agnostic on this, even when I caught wind of this information a good week before it was released on Indymedia, I was like 'Well I've only met him a few times, bit shifty, but then again the AR movement does attract a few nutters, myself included." :P

If that is the case it has no place here on Indymedia. If Sarah was behind the original post and this is indeed some sort of hoax, she should be thoroughly ashamed of herself for bearing false witness, abusing Indymedia and trivializing animal rights and anti-fascist campaigns. their was information in some of the leaked emails, that would have only been known to a privileged few. I bore witness to one encounter which he reports, and no-one else their has any involvement in the leaking or publication of this post.
although the information is not overwhelmingly sensitive, it is extremely unlikely anyone else would have known that the encounter happened.

Whilst for whatever reason Matt has been an informant and Sarah certainly appears to play a major part in this whole sad story could people please not refer to those with mental health problems as "nutters" used inn this thread as though they are of less worth?
Lara was a freind and yes she could be utterly fraustrating, very manipulative and she pissed a lot of people off (including me and in fact I could no longer cope with her problems) but she would also throw her heart and soul into demos when she was well and was an excellent cook. She would often seem eager to please and make reparations for when she was in a bad mood when she was well. The fact is she threw herself out of a window 3 floors up after her boyfreind died in 2003 and had a serious poblem with addictions.She was in her early 30s and I fail to see how this is in any way amusing, she was like all of us an activist who died a horrible lonely death.
Many activists get depressed, turn to drink and/or drugs, get PTSD, commit suicide etc, it could happen to anyone, does an activist who has a breakdown after seeing so much abuse and violence somehow become subhuman, a figure of fun? Whilst I am not suggesting that we all take on all the problems of activists who are mentally ill because this can be overwhelming maybe we should be more sympathetic?

you quite clearly don't know the story here so don't dirty the name of someone who died over six years ago by dragging her into it, Lara was a friend of mine and the inquest into her death concluded that it was not known if she had taken her own life or if it had been an accident. The only dog she had at the time was Bonnie who was already being cared for by the parents of her boyfriend who have to my knowledge had him ever since, this whole Matthew/Sarah thing is sordid enough without dragging other people into it.

I was disappointed to hear about all this, Matt and Sarah have both been friends of mine for quite some time. I think we need to realise that we can learn some lessons from this episode. I do feel terribly sorry for them, but at the end of the day they seem to have brought this all on themselves.

Don't worry, there's no way I'm going to defend Matt and Sarah. Whatever the truth of this story is, any credibility they had has been shot to pieces and no-one will associate with them now. I'm just being cautious and trying to be open minded because I'm not too comfortable with the idea of trial by Indymedia. A lot of crap gets posted on here and you can never be quite sure what to believe. I think we can rule out a stitch-up by fascists or animal abusers though because as far as I know, Matt is not a prominent figure in any movements and would be a very unlikely target for a smear campaign. That leaves two possibilities. This is either a malicious act by his partner or, as you suggest, the story is true. One thing I do remember is that when I used to shop at Kyi-po I would wind Matt up by telling him I thought he was a copper. I was joking but there was definitely something that made me feel uneasy. I really should pay more attention to my instincts.

I knew Lara Saunders. I think she may have been a manic-depressive as her moods were very unpredictable but apart from that she seemed quite sane to me. She was certainly a very dedicated campaigner and it's a bit unfair to drag someone into this who is no longer here to defend themselves. This was in his younger days. I have watched this situation unfold and do not believe a word of accusations against him. I am sure that the accusations come from the over-active imagination of a teenage boy from Leeds who has always wanted to hit the big time in activist circles but never quite made it.

I have just returned from tonights YAFA meeting - attended by 8 people.

The entire situation was discussed, Matthew was not present so that we could have a free discussion.

There are several points:

We all know that the Antifa statement is not entirely correct, Matthew did not attempt to join Antifa via email, as they claim, he knew that it dont work like that, but we all knew he was setting up his own group of street-fighters under the old York AFA name, deliberatly seperate from Antifa, but possibly with some common ground, but seperate none the less.

We know that he has recruited several pairs of hands, and formed a political cell - based on his old links and people that he knew from growing up in York.

It looks like his cell defected to the EDL, thinking that the EDL is a non-racist right wing group, but we are not sure about all the details surrounding this development.

The YAFA meeting refused to convict Matthew and we do think that he has been set up, The decision was taken to temporarily go quiet on this issue, and remain in contact with Matthew and even invite him to the next meeting, which will be a public meeting to continue the discussion and shed some light on the whole situation. - when we have confirmed with Matthew, we will confirm the date, time and location of the next meeting.

She passed the e-mails to a freind of mine and they eventually found there way onto this site. they ar 100% true and the following comments are just a way of backtracking after the coupe tried to salvage there broken relationship.

Matthew you can sign yourself - a relative of matthew, NHS nurse, Matthew, the real Matthew or any other pseudonym that takes your fancy even anon, but some of us know how transparent you really are.

If you keep replying to postings then you are not going to be left alone. Your poor attempts at disguising who you are only add fuel to the fire. Your latest outburst is a typical example of why things are still continuing to be posted here. It was your inability to keep quiet in the first place that caused you the trouble that you (deservedly) got. Have you learnt your lesson? NO!

Time is the greatest healer. Let things lie then maybe you and Sarah Larking may be left alone.

It's time to for us all to move on this is old news.

Matthew and Sarah have!

They have moved out of the vegan food business and moved into the off licence business specialising in truffles (yum). Ky-Po to Gluggles

They have moved out of the flat in Haxby to move into a flat inthe city centre.

They have moved the RSPCA gerbils into Sarah's gerbil mansion.

As long as they move on from their trivial animal rights campaigning and leave it to those of us that are serious about animal welfare then I will be happy.

If you want to meet up then please do. You know how to contact me. We can then see if you can follow through on your claims.

But you know that will never happen because if nothing else this whole thing has shown up to be a cowardly nobody. You have no support, you are on your own. You know the original postings were true, as does your girlfriend as she is the one who passed them on to me. She knew that I would do what is necessary i.e. expose you as a grass. I don't care what has happened to you as long as people are aware that you cannot be trusted. If this has forced you from the Animal Lib scene then this is a victory. If that is what they want then I hope that they do the same and leave the rest of us alone. Do not contact us. Do not ask us for suppport. Do not expect us to frquent your shop.
