Bong: Welsh Copper tries to use law from New South Wales (Australia)

An over eager Police officer has tried to use a law from Australia to prosecute a shopkeeper in Bargoed, South Wales. Rather than check his own Police manual, the dozy copper Googled the law on selling bongs and didn't notice that he had stumbled into the laws from New South Wales, Australia.

UG#565 - The World Crisis and the Wholeness of Life (Deschooling Society 5)

This week we look at the effect on the direction of Western society of the concerted efforts made to turn as many people as possible into non-thinking automata. In our first hour, a wide ranging and entertaining lecture from a quarter century ago, E. F. Schumacher speaks on "The World Crisis and the Wholeness of Life" in the year before his death. Then the ensuing Q & A, followed by chapter 5 from Illich's Deschooling Society. We conclude with a little from John Taylor Gatto and a retired Brigadier General on one aspect of waste by the US military.

Free Love and Socialism Cycle Ride: 17th June

Fiday 17th June is the longest Friday of the year and we will be kicking off Bike Week for CycleSheffield. The theme of this ride is Free Love and Socialism: a ride to see the Millthorpe house where Edward Carpenter (1844-1929) - a nationally and internationally renowned radical, socialist activist, writer and thinker, advocate of free love, early gay activist and ‘bohemian’, – and sandalmaker – lived from the 1880s to the 1920s.
