Sheffield Cathedral, working in partnership with the Diocese of Sheffield, is proud to be hosting a major series of lectures on environmental issues. Climate Change, Energy and the Politics of the Future: exploring the practicalities of political planning for climate change, will explore the political and economic implications of climate change, featuring three prominent speakers from industry, academia, and economics.
The Energy - Tuesday 6 October
Dr Alison Cooke, Fellow I Mech E, Chair of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers response to the Future Climate Project.
This will include an assessment of the contribution David MacKay’s ground breaking book ‘Sustainable Energy – without the hot air’ can make to developing realistic policies.
The Money - Wednesday 21 October
Ann Pettifor, Executive Director of Advocacy International and Operation Noah, formerly with the Jubilee 2000 , member of the Green New Deal Group. An experienced international economist takes a hard but hopeful look.
The Politics - Wednesday 11 November
Professor Lord Anthony Giddens, formerly Director of the London School of Economics. Looking at different political models the lecture will draw on his recent influential book ‘The Politics of Climate Change’.
