As catastrophic climate change threatens, we must ask ourselves, who has the power and the will to avert disaster? Government bureaucrats and business bosses have already proved themselves incapable and unwilling to act, because they know that they will be insulated from the effects of climate disaster.
It is workers who will be worst hit by a dramatic change in the climate: inflation, high prices, falling wages and standards of living, and increased natural disasters will all hurt workers more than the rich. This is why we must act to avert climate change.
As the producers of society's wealth, workers have the skills, the power, and the strategic position to make the changes that need to be made. The only possible transition to a low carbon, sustainable economy will be a just, fair and worker-led transition. It must be planned and executed by workers and trade unions, with the help of activists and climate campaigners.
Workers Climate action seeks to bring together Trade Unionists and climate change activists to discuss and formulate a worker's plan to prevent environmental disaster. Join us on the 15th and 16th of November to start the transition!
