The demonstrations in Genoa in July 2001 marked the high water mark of the turn of the century anti-capitalist cycle of protest. 200,000 demonstrators were met with horrific violence from the police, including the killing of Carlo Giuliani.
Soon two court cases concerning those events will come to their conclusion. One is the trial of police officers involved in the raid on the Diaz school building when sleeping protesters were beaten so severely that three went into a comma and nearly died. Second is the trail of prison officers and police involved in torturing prisoners at the Bolzaneto detention centre.
Those trials and other judicial proceedings have partly been about fixing the interpretation of those events and establishing their legacy. To mark the conclusion of the trials the activist trauma support group is touring with two amazing films about the events.
After the film showings we will take the opportunity to discuss the legacy of the anti-globalisation movement and talk about how we can re-ignite the hope and radicalism of those times.

OP is a detailed examination of the events of the 20th of July 2001, when marches and rallies around the red zone were heavily attacked by the police. Through maps, recordings of police radio communications and other evidence gathered in the course of the trial against 25 demonstrators, the film exposes the way the police forces turned the streets of Genoa into a war zone. This revised edition video, of the Diaz raid at the end of the Genoa G8 in
July of 2001, tells a more complete story than previous footage has been able to. It was compiled from material taken from the 'Genova Super Video' which has been instrumental in the course of the trials. Including footage from the San Martino Hospital before victims were taken to Bolzaneto.
