One of their main funders, for animal research, is the British Heart Foundation (BHF) who have a permanent base at the university and funded, amongst countless others, the experiment mentioned above. BHF get a large part of their money from public donations from people unaware of this archaic animal abuse being paid for with their money.
To highlight the animal abuse happening at Leeds University, banners were hung off bridges along the inner ring road so they would be seen by thousands of rush-hour drivers and potential BHF funders. Even as protesters were tying the banners on, passing drivers hooted their horns in support.
Animal research relies on secrecy, especially when it is publicly-funded, so we hope this action will bring to light what is happening on our doorsteps and bring this issue to people, as well as the academia and commercial investors.
