The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has announced the launch of South Yorkshire’s first ever Celebration of Learning awards, or CoLas.
The awards, which are designed to recognise the fantastic achievements of young people who have undertaken vocational learning, will culminate in a spectacular ceremony in February 2006. With up to £1750 on offer for the overall winner, the CoLas are likely to prove a popular addition to the South Yorkshire calendar.
Fiona Blacke, Executive Director of the LSC South Yorkshire explained: “This initiative is designed to showcase some of the amazing young learners within South Yorkshire. There are some wonderful examples of achievement in a diverse range of vocational subjects from young people learning at work, at college, in private training organisations or even at home. Too often we hear about the negative things young people do, this is a chance to celebrate the youngsters who are in essence our future.
“Our aim is to recognise these achievements by offering young people the opportunity to apply for up to three awards across a range of categories. I would urge local businesses to encourage any young people who are working with them to enter the awards. They will help put South Yorkshire’s vocational learning on the map.”
Entry forms for CoLa can be downloaded from the website at www.colasyorks.co.uk or can be obtained from the LSC on 0845 019 4171.
