This is the second sheffield social forum *organising* meeting and here are a few of the main points:
The most important thing is that the launch was agreed to be on october 11th. The layout of the forum was discussed and it was agreed that two main centres near each other the st mathews church and the mappin istitute for the blind will be chased up but neither has been confirmed. The other choice was using a club (the benefit is that it will be free). Also we welcome 'fringe' events i.e local community centres or squats to have some of the more non-mainstream events [personally i think that will be a key part of the successs is how many/big the fringe events are].
The layout will be something along the lines of 'key note speakers' (are being chased up) and workshops from the local community groups a letter has been drafted and is being finished as we speak to be sent out (we are also welcoming groups to contact us if you are interested email me and i can forward the nessasary info and hopefully get some reply as soon as possible). It seems as though it will be a day long event with a big session at the end of the day for everyone to get together have a chat and put ideas forward for the permanent form of the sheffield social forum.
The next organising meeting (the last before the launch!) will take place august 21st 7:30 pm at the st marys church (on the corner of brammal lane if i am not wrong). We are invinting everyone so try to get down there, get involved and help us out cos we dont have all the answers and we need you too.
