Penny Rimbaud at Menwith Hill
There was a lot of good stuff, from music and bands to political speeches. I don't usually like the latter at such events but the speechs were particularly interesting, eloquent and moving here.
One of the highlights of the day was a long anti war poem by Penny Rimbaud from the 70's punk band, Crass. This was recited to ambient background music and done with great passion. When refering to the warmongers, or police or US state Rimbaud would gesture his hand to the right, towards the base, and the police who were right there beside us. While we were all in party dress and laughing and smiling the juxtaposition of the sombre faced, stationary police (some of who were displaying machine guns) powerfully illustrated and strengthened what Rimbaud was saying.
