Gaza protests - what is the point of political protest?
03.06.2010 23:05
I know the moral and humanitarian reasons why I go there, sure...out of solidarity for the dead...and the living under threat (That's ALL of us by the way)...but what is the point of prattling on about this or other politician or military man/woman when they quite CLEARLY create AND cause all of this murder and mayhem in the first instance.?
If these protests were so important then how come the world cup st.george flag waving crettins are NOT usually in the crowds? or even the likes of the WDM, or in Sheffield, for example, most of the Afro-Caribbean community or Chinese/Asian DO NOT EVER show up?
Palestine and peacefully protesting peoples deaths are clearly NOT IMPORTANT.
World Cup football, booze, barbecues and alcohol clearly ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT...
If you do not agree, then just look in ANY of the multitude of daily or weekly rags around the place to see which has the most coverage or serious intent.
F**k the politicians and their evil, sick, corrupt and hateful warlords/landowners/rulers.
We speak to the real people.....if we speak at all.
The military cowards DO NOT WANT to hear truth...and their lackeys...the cowards of the media/BBC, Poolice and all.
We have to tell and sell our message of truth, peace, love and all that boring stuff...in some other, positive and creative way...IMHO.

As for characterising the entire population of the U.K as boozy football fans who don't care we'll its just wrong, especially in a city like Sheffield which has a strong tradition of supporting social justice and fighting injustice, They're not there because the information they get is distorted and they're easily distracted.
Look at those pictures above, I think every ethnic group is present. These protests are an expression of humanity, and that would include the boozy footy fans if they knew the full extent of the genocide being carried out on the West Bank and in Gaza.

Something has to be done.

The more pressure we exert the more likely the chance that something will be done about it.
As the 2nd poster says, if we ignored this and carried on without mentioning it in any way shape or form then nothing would be done and those who suffer would continue to suffer. Its easy to condemn those who do try to do something, but no matter how small that action is, it is something.
