Organising meeting 7pm this Thursday 29th Jan at UNISON office in Barnsley.
Sessions include: Introduction to the asylum system; Organising migrant workers; Equality of access to services; Asylum seekers' right to work; Challenging racism in the workplace and unions; International trade union solidarity; fighting the BNP; Refusing to implement racist/discriminatory laws and rules at work.
We hope to inform and help co-ordinate trade unionists who want workers' unity and solidarity - regardless of immigration status. We welcome other suggestions for sessions and help in organising the day. You are welcome to come to meetings of the organising committee - the next is in Barnsley, Thursday 29th January at 7pm Barnsley UNISON office (18 Regent Street, Barnsley, S70 2HG).
The conference already has the support and sponsorship of a number of trade union branches in South Yorkshire. Please add yours. We particularly welcome the participation of people seeking asylum and migrant workers with trade union experience in their countries of origin.
