Stop Government Sound Lelel Restrictions in Live Entertainment Venues

JOSH DREAMSPIRIT | 12.01.2009 13:47 | Culture | Repression | Social Struggles | Sheffield

THE NEW LABOUR GOVERNMENT WANTS TO STOP US ALL HAVING A GOOD TIME AS IF THINGS WERE NOT BAD ENOUGH

It has been brought to attention that the government wish to consider it a legal requirement in the new tax year to introduce laws insisting anyone applying or re-applying for an entertainment license must have a noise control device fitted to the venue. This will be the final NAIL for ALL entertainment in the UK as the level at which these devices CUT you off is dreadfully low and damaging.

PLEASE DO NOT INTRODUCE THIS LAW, WE LOVE LIVE MUSIC!

SIGN HERE: http://petitions. number10. gov. uk/NoNoiseControl/

"THIS GOVERNMENT THIS TERRIBLE DISHONEST BUNCH OF LIARS AND CROOKS WHO MUST SURELY BE IN THEIR FINAL 16 MONTHS OF OFFICE ARE TAKING THEIR CONTROL FREAK MANIFESTO TO AN EVEN MORE ABSURD LEVEL.

FREEDOM FREEDOM FREEDOM PEOPLE WE MUST STOP THIS"
best wishes

WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?

12.01.2009 14:29

Is it cos your volume was too loud when you were a kid? ;-)

Anon

A noise limit would be an excellent idea

12.01.2009 18:52

If rock gigs weren't so unnecessarily loud then I probably wouldn't have tinnitus. Why not spend more time getting it to sound good instead of insanely noisy?

Music Fan

You want to end up deaf as well as daft?

12.01.2009 19:31

You're seriously arguing for the right of venues to damage people's hearing? I guess you could argue that punters can make a choice, though its a weak case IMHO, but what about staff? You presumably wouldn't argue for poor health and safety practice in other workplaces. Grow up and think on.

@narchist

I AGREE

13.01.2009 11:00

I tend to agree with you in some ways although not with the "squat this" "squat that" mentality you might want to live in squalor which is what squat usually adds up to but i don't hey i sound middle class oh no.

Fuck off from Indymedia and Stick with reading your evening standard and Mail because you do not seem to have a clue about life outside the shit that those tabloids spout, well they are designed for morons like you. Squats are what you make them and I have lived in squats that were much better looked after than a lot of expensive rented flats/houses.

@narchist

very doubtful

13.01.2009 12:21

squats are made by scum and lived in by scum and broken up by scum

What are the specifics

13.01.2009 17:00

Other than this attempt to create mass hysteria over our "losing our rights", please could someone disclose some more details?

E.G.:
What is the noise limit proposed?
usually the noise limit accepted by environmental Health differs according to both location, time and environment

What are the devices proposed?
For example, would stating on your licence application: "Q:Noise control devices fitted? A: Volume button" be sufficient? (im joking, but seriously think about it)

How will this be enforced?
All venues already have noise restrictions in their licenses (see above) and the only time an issue is caused is when some pokey neighbour calls environmental Health....
So, if the venue isnt going to be ratted on it will be yet another one of those unenforcable laws

I would seriously like to see the actual wording of the act so i can assess this one...anyone know where it is? i have just spent 3 hours searching the net, and nothing.....just forum discussions similar to above

one quote that sums it up at the moment for me:
"anyone noticed that what this petition is against, is a rumour of it happening, not that it has been announced that its happening."

Until the actual paperwork is revealed i can help think that guy got it right

J

too many mind-altering substances?;)

Not too keen on insanely loud music but I like your attitude so good luck.

Anything that limits the noise that this TWAT makes sounds like a good idea to me!
