BPP Standing For Election In Leeds Bramley Ward

The nazi (or white nationalist) group, the British People's Party, have announced that they have submitted the nomination papers to stand for the Bramley/Stanningley ward in Leeds. Its leader, Eddy Morrison, known as 'Unsteady Eddy' to friend and foe alike (a reference to his alleged drink problem) is well-known to the fascist movement, having been involved with and thrown out of so many bits of it. One interesting post on a nazi forum had this to say of him:

'Eddy Morrison has indeed had a remarkable career. He has been fighting for 'Nationalist Unity' in the National Front, [the notoriously violent] National Democratic Freedom Movement (his own), British National Party (his own) circa 1977, National Front again, British Movement, National Action Party (his own), National Front (again), New National Front, British National Party, National Front (again), Aryan Unity, White Nationalist party, Spearhead Support group, Spearhead Group, Nationalist Alliance and finally British Peoples Party...'

Not exactly Mr Popular, then?

Morrison is a Holocaust-denier (and consequently a supporter of the appalling David Irving) and claims the late John Tyndall, the founder of the British National Party, as his and the BPP's spiritual leader.

The BPP is full, as most nazi groups are, with the cast-offs from other nazi groups. One prominent member is convicted electoral fraudster, Steve Smith, who was, until fairly recently, the Burnley British National Party organiser, but resigned, according to him, over the party's treatment of his thug of a nephew. His nephew is former BNP councillor, Luke Smith, who has just been jailed for football hooliganism and related violence. Smith's main claim to fame however, apart from being a hopeless councillor, is that he smashed a bottle into the face of someone with whom he was having a disagreement at the BNP's annual Red, White and Blue Festival last year.

Another reject from the (many) other white nationalist groups to join forces with the BPP is Mark Cotterill, former fundraiser for the BNP via the now defunct American Friends of the BNP, who went off in a huff to start his own group, the England First Party (EFP), after a fall-out with Griffin and his acolytes.

EFP stood a candidate (Paul Bamford) in Lancaster City Council's Heysham South ward a couple of years ago, when they failed to win the seat. Cotterill's EFP, having now formed an uneasy alliance with several other fascist groups, is now putting Cotterill himself up under the BPP banner in Blackburn's Meadowhead ward, which he also failed to win last time he stood back in 2004.

Although it's easy to make jokes about groups like the British People's Party, they should not be underestimated. They are a hardcore nazi group and many of their supporters condone terrorism (without criticism from the leadership). One quote from a thread on their forum makes this clear:

'Real modern English NS heros like Ian and David Copeland have shown us the way...it's about destroying the multi-racial state.'

NS is shorthand for National Socialist, or nazi. Ian is a reference to the thankfully late Ian Donaldson, of the nazi band, Skrewdriver. David Copeland is the ex-BNP member who nail-bombed (among other places), the Admiral Duncan pub in Soho, killing four people, among whom was a pregnant woman. These are the heroes of the BPP.

The text of one of the leaflets Morrison & co have been distributing in Bramley is reproduced below. It's about as dishonest and disingenuous as it gets, and shows the way Morrison plans to fight this election: The BPP pl;an to fight on bullshit. There's no mention of the Holocaust or ZOG (the "international Jewish conspiracy" the BPP are obsessed with, no mention of Adolf Hitler, no swastikas, no raving about "mudslums" or "n____ers" or "kikes" or "queers", no glorification of David Copeland or the Shankhill Butchers. Antifascists should be exposing the BPP for the vile Nazi scum they are.

For several months now, only the BPP (the British People’s Party) and its National Organiser, Eddy Morrison, have, on YOUR behalf, publicly asked what is happening at Bramley Shopping Centre? Even before our doorstep canvassing confirmed local anger about the Centre, we were campaigning, on the BPP website and in locally-compiled and targeted leaflets, against the changes underway there.

The BPP alone has exposed outrage over the new Bramley Shopping Centre leases which forced some popular traders to close up shop. Other traders could close soon. Even if new tenants are found, the higher rents we revealed will mean extra costs being passed on to already-grumbling shoppers. On our website and leaflets the BPP has asked: Is the Centre closing or being improved? Is it earmarked for redevelopment as commercial offices or expensive, private flats? Or will we have a centre too expensive for we shoppers to afford?

The BPP recently issued local Labour MP, Mr. John Battle, a challenge: to confront the Centre owners and to publicly speak up for his local shoppers. He has failed to do so. Our locally-compiled website article on the subject, in contrast, was published by an international Internet news agency. Yet New Labour’s MP in Bramley and Stanningley Ward still offers no public defence of his own constituents! The Council, he says, does not own the Centre and cannot interfere in how it is run. So much for New Labour in Bramley and Leeds. So much for Democracy.

Bramley and Stanningley Ward has thousands of low-income families with children. Many are single parent families. John Battle says that this Ward has almost 15,000 senior citizens. How have these struggling locals coped with the loss of a butcher’s shop and a hardware store, with the transfer of Morrison’s to Somerfield and the resultant higher prices? How will they and others cope as Centre rents and prices continue to rise?

Bramley Shopping Centre’s owners should remember that we live and shop here. Our Council Tax pays for the utility services, the emergency services and the policing support from which the Centre owners benefit. We, too, pay for the road networks and the public transport services which bring thousands of shoppers to the Centre. The people of Bramley and the BPP in Bramley therefore demand answers from Bramley Shopping Centre’s owners. We demand to be part of and to influence the discussion process, to keep our popular traders, to be heard and to have our views acted upon.

Unlike Tony Blair in far-off Westminster, Mr. Battle is the man who supposedly carries the political can for the householders and shoppers, the workers and voters of Bramley and Stanningley. Over and over, however, he and local Labour Councillors have ignored the Voice of the People in this area. In spite of this, New Labour’s local MP and his City Council cronies have somehow, until now, survived in office.

Having consistently ignored the Bramley Shopping Centre issue, around which Eddy Morrison and the BPP are now attracting such growing support, Labour's City Hall will, in the 04 May 2006 municipal elections, discover the price of that deafness. Their arrogance will have provoked rebellion by their angry and abandoned Council Tax payers and their former voters will, like YOU, be listening to and voting for Eddy Morrison and the BPP.

Who Are The British People’s Party?

The so-called British People’s Party (BPP) are not a party for the British people at all. What they are is a small bunch of Hitler-worshipping fascist cranks intent on lying to and manipulating people while keeping their real agenda secret. The BPP are an insult to anyone’s intelligence.

Until recently the tiny BPP was called the ‘White Nationalist Party’, but they were unable to register that name with the Electoral Commission, so they began calling themselves the Nationalist Alliance. After 2 months, they were already squabbling, and after a split the BPP was set up. Two months later, the BPP’s own chairman left after yet another falling out, with the new leadership now accusing him of sexual misconduct and mental instability, and him accusing his usurpers of stealing party funds. The new Fuhrer of this shower is Eddy Morrison, who has repeatedly been accused of being, among other things, a drunken and corrupt police-informer, who would sell his own mother for beer-money.

Morrison hopes to win political power in Bramley this year, and will say whatever he thinks is necessary to get people to vote for him, he is a twisted and ruthless individual. Even Morrison’s fellow Nazis know that he is a man who cannot be trusted.

Like the rest of the BPP leadership, Morrison is obsessed with Adolf Hitler, the Nazi dictator our parents and grandparents fought World War 2 to destroy. On fascist internet sites he calls himself ‘Wolf 88’ after Hitler’s dog! The 88, with which Morrison also signs his posts, stands for ‘Heil Hitler’ (H being the 8th letter of the alphabet.) Morrison is a sad fantacist and a fascist bigot, his ravings have no relevance whatsoever to ordinary people in Bramley. Don’t be fooled.

I notice that Morrison's personal 'Aryan Unity' site, (featuring Mein Kampf amongst all the other racist filth on there), has been down for a while. Not sure if that's because he still hasn't paid confessed child-molestor (see his autobiography on the internet) Simon Sheperd, who set it up, or because it contains too much politically 'inconvenient' material. I bet he's glad that idiot Williamson doesn't live nearer to Leeds - He is threatening to come up, but particularly with all the people he's upset lately (there are other Nazis baying for his blood), I reckon he'll find an excuse not to come as usual - which probably suits Morrison. Williamson doesn't have the brain of a hamster, and would be guaranteed to upset people.

I note that on the front page of the BPP website there is a photo of deceased Nationalist John Tyndall, who despite the fact that he was a member of the BNP and not Morrison's outfit, the BPP are now claiming as their "spiritual leader". This is just another of Morrison's lies, it was no secret in White Nationalist circles that JT loathed Morrison. The following article is proof of that, and it was written BEFORE Morrison confessed to passing information to the police in return for beer money.

THE WANDERINGS AND POSTURINGS OF THE PATHETIC MR. MORRISON
JOHN TYNDALL looks at the career of an inveterate disrupter [Spearhead, April 1983, pages 12, 13 & 17]
READERS OF SPEARHEAD will know that our magazine has consistently followed a policy of opposing any fragmentation of the forces of British Nationalism into separate parties. That fragmentation is already bad enough as it is, and if it is to proceed further this can bring nothing but harm to the Nationalist cause. That simple truth, however, has evidently not got home to some people, and we are now confronted with the emergence of yet another Nationalist splinter group, this time calling itself the ‘National Action Party’. As I know something about the origins of this squalid little enterprise, I am in a favourable position to give a warning about it to unsuspecting Nationalists.

The National Action Party solemnly announced itself to the world in a scruffy leaflet the punctuation of which straight- away identifies its author (or authors) as semi-literate. The leaflet begins by condemning the leaders of other Nationalist parties for squabbling and fighting and goes on to say that it (the NAP) “is not a splinter group” and has “no need or wish to attack other Nationalists.” These claims will immediately be recognised as absurd from a reading of the leaflet, which identifies the NAP as quite clearly a splinter group and bristles with attacks on other Nationalists in almost every line.

Undoubtedly the leading motivator in this ludicrous little organisation is a man called Eddy Morrison. I know a good deal about the career of Eddy Morrison and I think that some of the features of it would be of undoubted interest to Nationalists.

Mr. Morrison, before his encounter with Nationalism, was a member of the Young Communist League. That is not in itself a cause for his condemnation. Many young innocents become attracted to Communism when they are at an age of not knowing what it is about, and then later with maturity shed their Communist beliefs and become sincere anti-Communists. As to whether this was the case with Eddy Morrison, we shall see from a study of his subsequent political record.

RAPID SWITCHES OF LOYALTY

The outset of the 1 970s saw Mr. Morrison now a member of the National Front and very active on behalf of that party in the Leeds area, where he then lived. Sometime around.1971-72 he then defected to British Movement, led at the time by Cohn Jordan. Less than 2 years later he was on the road again, leaving BM and asking to be readmitted to the NF. In recent correspondence with Mr. Jordan, I have been able to establish that his departure from the former to the latter took place a matter of just two or three days after he was observed at a BM meeting affirming his loyalty to that organisation and bitterly attacking the National Front.

I had not very long been elected Chairman of the NF when Eddy Morrison made his application to rejoin. In view of his past switches of loyalty, we were not inclined to welcome him back as a member unconditionally, and I. wrote and told him that I would like to meet him and have a talk with him before deciding upon the question of his readmission to the party. I asked him to come down to London and meet me, which he did. In our discussion he was at pains to convince me of his sincerity in regretting his previous defection and his resolve, if allowed back, not to betray the trust re-established in him. I was not wholly won over, but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, as I saw him as a young man of energy and talent which it would be a desirable thing to harness to the promotion of the party.

Mr. Morrison then became active again with the NF in Leeds. During this period the• local branch there acquired a headquarters premises which it paid for out of its own funds. Eddy Morrison, however, was the individual in whose name the lease on the premises was negotiated.

Mr. Morrison’s second term as an NF member did not last very long. By about 1974-75 he was ready for another move and, despite all his previous undertaking to stick by the party, he left and formed his own splinter group which he called the ‘National Democratic Freedom Movement’. Using his position as official tenant of the local NF headquarters building, he converted that building into a headquarters for his new group — partly financed from hard-won NF funds!

The National Democratic Freedom Movement made little attempt to engage in~ serious politics but concentrated its activities mainly upon acts of violence against its opponents. In due course Morrison, along with some of his leading supporters, was arrested for being in possession of stolen office equipment. He was remanded in custody for 2 weeks while awaiting trial but when he came to court was only fined.

Before very long the NDFM had degenerated into nothing more than a criminal gang, and Morrison was forced to acknowledge that it had been a failure. He thereupon launched another venture which he called the ‘National Socialist Study Society’. This was intended by Morrison to be something of an ‘elite’, and his infection as stated to his seven followers was that when he felt strong enough he would reform the society into an openly National Socialist party. This never even got off the ground and in September 1975 we find Eddy Morrison presiding over the formation of another organisation, ironically enough called the ‘British National Party’. Needless to say, this organisation never had any connection with the current party bearing the same name.

BACK TO THE N.F.

By 1978 Morrison’s BNP had become totally eclipsed by the successes of the National Front and he was fast losing members to the NF. He decided to try once again to get into the latter party and managed once again to negotiate himself into membership by promises of past lessons learned and future good behaviour and reliability. The decision once more to admit Morrison into the NF was made by the party’s Directorate but I had a part in it and, with certain strong inner reservations, approved of it. The main thought in my mind was to remove a rival organisation from the scene which, though it had lost many members to the NF, still was something of an irritant to us in the North of England. If Morrison got up to his old tricks again, he could always later be dispensed with.

In due course he again became active with the Leeds NF branch. Towards the end of 1978 he was again remanded in custody on charges àf causing an affray at a disco promoted by the Anti-Nazi League. With him were a number of other NF members sand supporters. In the outcome all the others were found guilty and received prison sentences but Morrison was acquitted. At about the same time he started trying to recruit punk-rockers into the NF and founded a publication called Punk Front.

When in 1979 Andrew Fountaine attempted to split the NF by forming his breakaway ‘Constitutional Movement’ he managed to take a quite substantial number of Leeds branch members with him, including most of the older ones. In later enquiries I was able to establish that the main factor in causing this defection was the dissatisfaction of these members over the behaviour of Eddy Morrison who, I was told, seemed intent on recruiting the scum of the earth into the party and, to that end, was deliberately setting out to give the party an image that would appeal to these elements and alienate decent people.

When in January 1980 I resigned from the NF Chairmanship over the refusal of the Directorate to give me the powers necessary to deal with the disease of homosexuality in the party, Eddy Morrison, I was later informed, spoke at a meeting of the Leeds branch and called upon the branch to support me. Very shortly afterwards he did a complete about-turn and started campaigning against me and in support of the Directorate. This may have had something to do with the fact that the Directorate had offered him the post of Yorkshire Regional Organiser!

His loyalty to the Directorate, however, was short-lived. After a regional activity in Halifax in August 1980, he was on the return journey to Leeds when he got into a fight with another member on the coach. Ho demanded of the then NF Chairman that his adversary in this fight be suspended but this demand was refused. It was a matter of days afterwards that Morrison contacted me and again changed sides, offering to leave the NF and join the New National Front, which had been formed a short time before.

Again for purely tactical reasons, I consented to Morrison being allowed in — my thought being that he was probably less harm to us as a member (for the time being at least) than he would be working for the NF Directorate faction. This decision I can now acknowledge was a wrong one, for it cost the NNF a great deal of support in Leeds, so low had Morrison’s stock become in that area.

CREDIBILITY RUN OUT

Morrison in time came to recognise the latter fact and came to believe that on his home soil at least his credibility had run out. He moved in early 1982 to London and informed me that he was eager to get active in the capital. Could he have some kind of position which would enable him to act more effectively?

By this time I had come to form an opinion of Eddy Morrison which completely prohibited his being given any party rank which would place him in a position of responsibility and trust or any kind of seniority to other members. I decided, however, to appease his vanity by conferring upon him a meaningless title called ‘recruitment officer’ and hoped that that would provide him with some incentive at last to do something useful for the party. He was given the assignment of using his persuasive tongue and rapport with young working class folk to talk youngsters over to the. British National Party (as we had then become) who had previously supported other Nationalist factions. However, knowing the types that Morrison had tended to recruit in the past, I resolved that we would keep a careful watch on the quality of those who joined the party as a result of his persuasion.

At this stage I still had — I must confess — just a little flicker of lingering faith in Eddy Morrison. I deplored his past inconsistency and knew that he would for ever be a weak and unreliable character. I recognised at the same time that he did have some talent and I hoped at this late hour that it might still be possible for me to harness this talent to some constructive purpose if I could really gain his confidence and motivate him in the right way. With this in mind I had shortly before invited him to my home for the weekend with a view to establishing a better understanding between us. It was during this visit that he told me that he had in the past had a try at being ‘party leader’ and realised that he was not suited to the role and had no intention of coveting it again!

My lingering faith in Morrison was to prove futile — as the more realistic side of me told me it probably would. Before long he again started causing trouble.

We were contacted in about mid-1982 by a group of youngsters in the Brighton area who said that they were disaffected with the National Front and wanted to come over to us. As is normal procedure with the setting up of new groups, two representatives of this circle were met by our National Organiser Charles Parker and, as an outcome of this contact, it was agreed to set up a larger meeting in Brighton at which Mr. Parker would meet the other members of the group.

In the meantime Eddy Morrison had made his own contact with the same group and arranged a meeting at which he would feature as the main speaker and of which Mr. Parker was not even given the courtesy of being informed. As soon as 1 heard of this I wrote to Morrison and told him that, although there was no objection to him assisting in the forming of this new party unit, he should do so in liaison and co-operation with Mr. Parker, whose proper function in the party that was, and not act independently. The tone of this letter was friendly and only mildly admonitory. In the same letter I proposed that when I next visited London—which was in a few days’ time — Morrison and I meet in order that we may discuss the matter further and work out amicable lines of demarcation so that his function in the party did not collide with, but complemented, that of Mr. Parker.

WHIPPING UP DISAFFECTION

I received no reply to this invitation to a meeting and in the meantime heard that Morrison had started to circulate among party members trying to whip up disaffection against me and against Mr. Parker. I wrote him a second letter proposing that we meet in London (he was not obtainable by telephone). To this I received a reply but not from Morrison himself; he got a friend of his to ‘phone me on his behalf saying that he could not make the proposed meeting. I then wrote a third time and suggested yet another date. This time Morrison, instead of using his friend, disappeared behind the skirts of the lady he was then living with and who I understand was his fiancee and got her to ring me with a message that he was again indisposed.

Clearly the fellow not only had not the guts to meet me face-to-face to discuss our problems but did not even possess the gumption to speak to me himself on the telephone. I really had no idea that I was that terrifying! During this period I received further reports about his campaign of disruption and I thereupon wrote him a letter informing him that he was suspended from membership and would be called to face a disciplinary tribunal to answer charges of disruptive activities.

I knew of course that he would never appear before such a tribunal but would resign first and in all probability try to cause a split by forming yet another splinter group. This he duly did, and the ‘National Action Party’ came into being.

This organisation will of course enjoy just about as long a life, and achieve just about the same political usefulness, as the various other bodies launched by Mr. Eddy Morrison in the past. Indeed so pathetic and irrelevant is it that I know some of my colleagues in the party will question the point of my using this space to expose and condemn Morrison, telling me that it will only give him a sense of importance that he does not deserve.

Maybe they will be right, but in the course of promoting yet another flop Morrison may well mislead and dissipate the time and money of well meaning Nationalists, particularly of the younger generation, and if I can do anything to prevent this it will be worthwhile. I hope that any youngsters that Mr. Morrison calls upon to support his schemes acquaint themselves with his political record, on which I have endeavoured to shed a little light here.

There is also another factor. Though Morrison himself may not be important, the tendency that he represents in the camp of Nationalism is important enough for it not to be ignored. For years we have been plagued by these splitters and splinterers, and they all follow a common bent. Everything they get into they subvert and disrupt. They always claim of course that there are righteous and valid grievances underlying the disaffection that they constantly promote. Yet when called upon to come out into the open and discuss these grievances man-to- man they always find an excuse for not doing so. Morrison is a specimen who has constantly ratted on everyone who has posed trust in him, and always in an atmosphere of shady plotting and intrigue. If he has been consistent in one thing, it has been as one who incites others to disloyalty and mutiny — and he has done it so many times that we. have long lost count over the years.

I mentioned earlier on in this analysis Mr. Morrison’s Communist past. Has he reality broken with it? In his own mind it is possible that he may have done. But in the minds of the promoters of Communism in this country his work over the years in the Nationalist camp must surely earn him the Order of Lenin.

On the BPP website they also claim they "are not connected with any other party." That's bollocks - Mark Cotterill of the 'England First Party!' is described as a 'leading BPP member' and they're pushing for his election in Burnley, They are total liars.

Isn't it incredible that known British fascists get away with plastering this filth all over the internet simply because the servers for their hate sites are located outside the uk? On some of the sites they routinely talk about breaking the law and even killing people. The British People's Party are up to their necks in the Blood & Honour/Combat 18 site, Redwatch, and the Vanguard News Network, which must be among the worst sites on the internet.

There's no doubt that, as reported on Indymedia, the BPP are an absolute shambles, even their fellow-fascists are taking the piss out of them. I've only seen one reference (and it wasn't on here) to their leader being a nonce, he's a drunk, a police-informer, mentally unstable, and a Nazi, but I don't know about him being a nonce. The nonce is their so-called "National Recruitment Officer", the Saltdean Beast, Sid Williamson. The BPP are standing ONE candidate - Eddy Morrison in Bramley.

The BPP certainly aren't the biggest threat faced by black people, asylum seekers, Gays, Asians and other ethnic minorities in Britain, that's a claim I've not heard made by anybody. They are however, doing their best not only to stir up racism in small, mostly white pockets such as Bramley (and nationally/internationally through the internet), but they are engaged in actively encouraging racist attacks. There is every reason to confront them, and no reason whatsoever to be complacent about them organising, simply because New Labour or the BNP are a greater threat to asylum seekers, or because they are a bunch of degenerate nutters.

Look the BPP are an obscure pathetic little cult. They have next to no membership or any chance of it growing significantly. The people of Bramley are not stupid or inherently racist.

The BPP should indeed be 'shown the pavement' as you say. I agree. But they also need to be exposed (as in the Antifa/635 leaflet reproduced above.) The people of Bramley are not stupid, but Mr Morrison and his friends are being dishonest. They are campaigning on an issue which will be of some concern to local people, and which they may be representing. They are right when they say that the main partys don't care about ordinary folk. We need to let people in Bramley know what this group are really about, and deny the BPP a presence there, along with the BNP who are also standing in Bramley.

I doubt anybody really cares. But Rose's language seems quite inappropriate on this thread. The terms "moron" and neathanderthal" are normally reserved for people you've actually had some experience, and Rose has had absolutely no experience whatsoever of the 635 Group. It is rather typical of opportunist liberals trying to defend their turf, to try and characterise militant antifascists in this way.

A couple of months back, Eddy Morrison's pants were publicly pulled down by the 'Jewish Telegraph'. Unsteady Eddy's credibility with fellow Nazis was left in tatters after, when being challenged about an anti-Semitic leaflet, Morrison capitulated, and told the JT, he was "not anti-Jewish" (and presumably he's not bald and a drunk either.) He was not questioned about the presence of Mein Kampf on his personal 'Aryan Unity' website, or about his many and frequent anti-Jewish rantings.

Now, Morrison's integrity has been dealt another blow after a photo of him palling up black TV cook Ainsley Harriet was published on the internet. The BPP's Fuhrer-In-Chief appeared on Harriet's 'Can't Cook, Won't Cook' programme, together with his daughter. Clearly the BBC weren't aware who they were hosting, and it seems Eddy kept his mouth shut (for once) and his fingers crossed.

We understand that Eddy's next TV appearance will be in the new series of 'Queer as Folk', when he might have to cross more than his fingers.

News just in that the BPP's South Wales organizer has been arrested and charged with 'incitment to racial hatred'.

I can't comment on UAF in other parts of the country, but in Wakefield it definatly is not SWP controlled. The organising meeting had less than 1/4 of the people from the SWP, many of the people there were just ordinary people. It organised local days of action on everyweekend and quite a lot of weekdays, and then split into smaller groups to organise yet more leafletings. It's not hierarchical other than having one person in charge of ordering the leaflets/posters/etc that the group wants from the national UAF office. The only sectarianism we experienced was the socialist party refusing to join in and just sitting down watching us while smoking, giving the reason 'it doesn't tell the people who to vote for'... If it had done that most of the people would have left as we have many labour and lib dem supporters, as well as SWP, non-affiliated, respect and green supporters involved.
