Corbyn’s threat of democracy

Mark Curtis | 17-09-2015 10:40 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Sheffield

It is delightful to see Labour voters defy the establishment by finally electing a leader on the centre ground of British thinking. Opinion polls suggest that Jeremy Corbyn’s policies of nationalising the railways, energy companies and Royal Mail, along with opposition to the Iraq war and British intervention in the Middle East are all supported by a majority of the public.

Can Jeremy Corbyn Stem the Tide of Neoliberalism and Militarism?

Colin Todhunter | 17-09-2015 10:38 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Sheffield

Jeremy Corbyn has won the British Labour Party’s leadership election by a landslide. Corbyn comes from the left of the party, a party that over the past 30 years has shifted further to the right whereby it has become regarded as ‘Tory-light’ – a slightly watered down version of the Conservative Party. Labour has signed up to ‘austerity’, neoliberalism, US-led wars of imperialism and has ditched any commitment to public ownership of key sectors of the economy.

UG#710 - Facing The Failing Culture Of Control-3 (The Simple Model of Singapore)

Robin Upton | 18-07-2015 03:16 | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Sheffield | World

Audio
We have another program in our series on the failing culture of control. Last time we looked at the development of nuclear technology as a result of competition between nation states, this time we look instead at the 21st development of social technology to divide and conquer the world's population. Faced with the organized efforts to misdirect their altruistic impulses of the public at large by terrorizing them and implanting false beliefs, 3 speakers voice their iconoclastic and unwavering dissent.

UG#700 - Is There No Other Way the World May Live? (Audiocollage of Dissidents)

Robin Upton | 31-12-2014 12:32 | Social Struggles | Terror War | Workers' Movements | Sheffield | World

Audio
To mark our 700th show, a 2 hour audiocollage of new material which questions 'official' reality. Beginning with fairly broadly understood deceptions such as the War On Terror, Democracy and Economics we look at their philosophical underpinning - the notion that humans live in a dead, machine like, essentially meaningless universe which spontaneously arose out of nothing. What if life and communication are more widely spread than we believe, if human consciousness is just one part of Gaia, a universal consciousness which transcends human attempts to pin it down, a life force more accessible to our hearts than our heads?

UG#696 - The Morality Play of Austerity (Bailing out The Shipwrecked Plutocracy)

Robin Upton | 29-11-2014 20:46 | Workfare | Public sector cuts | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Sheffield | World

Audio
Three looks at the Financial 'Crisis':- First, Professor Mark Blyth, author of "Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea" looks at the promotion of austerity as a financially necessary measure, uncorrelated to bailouts. Next Les Leopold, another new speaker on the show, author of "How To Make A Million Dollars an Hour - Why Hedge Funds Get Away With Siphoning Off America's Wealth", describes financial chicanery of dubious legality and even less morality. We conclude with a stirring speech by regular speaker, Chris Hedges, who sets the austerity in the context of a dying empire, and assets that the only consistent position for those of conscience is outright rebellion against "the dehumanizing ideology of totalitarianism capitalism".

Still spendid as we head to the 2020s
Yes we are Working Class, yes we live and were brought up on council estates where the Ruling Class think we can be divided and forgotten about. Forced in to Unemployment when it suits them, hidden from view when it suits some of their Institutions...
