UG#710 - Facing The Failing Culture Of Control-3 (The Simple Model of Singapore)

Robin Upton | 18-07-2015 03:16 | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Sheffield | World

Audio
We have another program in our series on the failing culture of control. Last time we looked at the development of nuclear technology as a result of competition between nation states, this time we look instead at the 21st development of social technology to divide and conquer the world's population. Faced with the organized efforts to misdirect their altruistic impulses of the public at large by terrorizing them and implanting false beliefs, 3 speakers voice their iconoclastic and unwavering dissent.

UG#684 - The Supranational Deep State (Deep Politics and Middle East Oil)

Robin Upton | 05-06-2014 18:06 | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | History | Sheffield | World

Audio
Do you find yourself wondering what's really going on, having seen through some one set of lies, whether you are now faced with another, more carefully crafted set of untruths? Two contributors this week take a close look at the murky bu$ine$$ of Deep Politics. We begin with a new speaker, Charlotte Dennett, who suggests that underneath a lot of facades the Middle East oil (and its exploitation by foreign powers) lies at the heart of geopolitics - including both world wars. In our second hour, a compendious 2014 essay by Peter Dale Scott on "The State, the Deep State and the Wall Street Overworld". Scott reveals superficially separate incidents of political malfeasance such as the Safari Club, BCCI and Adnan Khashoggi are in fact all symptoms of a single political malaise that he terms a "Supranational Deep State".

UG#674 - Sane Methods but Insane Purposes (Angles On The Crescendo Of Violence)

Robin Upton | 16-01-2014 11:56 | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Sheffield | World

Audio
Our title, the self-diagnosis of the Captain Ahab, applies just as fittingly to the US led corporatocracy says Chris Hedges in his allegorical reading of Melville's Moby Dick. A variety of material, including an unread chapter of Charles Eisenstein's Ascent of Humanity and an interview with gift economy pioneers Vic Button and Frank Bowman point the way to a more optimistic end for humanity than that of the Ahab's doomed whaling voyage.

UG#626 - Where Communism Meets Capitalism (TPPA, Marxian Class Analysis 3)

Robin Upton | 29-03-2013 17:33 | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Sheffield

Audio
This episode we note some similarities between the so called extreme 'left' and 'right' ends of the political spectrum - when the government claims the ability to unilaterally decide how to run things, the stated ideology often goes by the board anyway. Bryan Gould discusses the confidential 'trade agreement' TPP, noting that it is less about free trade and more about subduing national sovereignty to the multinational corporations who devised it. In our second hour, we continue with Richard Wolff's Marxian class analysis, looking specifically at the 1917 Russian revolution.

EDL and NWI Will Come To Blows In Manchester #edl #nwi

Pampers For EDLers | 03-01-2013 01:48 | Anti-racism | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Liverpool | Sheffield

The desperate minds of the EDL (Extremely Dim Louts) will be turning up in their handfuls to Manchester to stand around in the pouring Pennine rain, chanting racist, repetitive bullshit in the hope it will solve their middle aged erectile problems. Tommy Robinson banged-up in jail, Kevin Carroll bitching about non-EDL nationalists calling them "muggy mushrooms", and Hel Gower shopping to the cops, fellow members she has got sick and tired of, Windbag EDL are shrinking faster than a harpooned balloon.

Leeds EDL Organiser Dreams of A Final Solution

Anti-Fascist | 25-12-2012 00:12 | Anti-racism | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Liverpool | Sheffield

On a serious note, since Tommy Robinson (Yaxley Lennon) was jailed, more and more EDL divisions have become openly racist. Today, while the spirit of Christmas cheer in the air, peace, love and goodwill to all men and all that, Yorkshire EDL (Leeds) were fantasising about an anti-Muslim final solution where ALL Muslim citizens living in the UK would be "removed", and all immigrants would be denied social welfare.

Sole military Super-Bloc: NATO Issues Daily Reprieves To The World

Rick Rozoff | 05-11-2011 00:34 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Sheffield | World

A Stop NATO feature in August provided an, admittedly incomplete, list of nations that NATO, actuated by its first Strategic Concept for the 21st century adopted at the bloc’s summit in Lisbon last November and its initial implementation in Libya this year, could attack or otherwise intervene in next: Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Central African Republic, Chad, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cyprus, Ecuador, Eritrea, Iran, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Moldova-Transdniester, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine, Somalia, the South Caucasus (Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh, South Ossetia), Sudan-South Sudan, Suriname, Syria, Uganda, Venezuela, Western Sahara, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

The time is ripe and in fact long overdue for issuing a call for an international anti-NATO initiative addressed to individuals, organizations, political parties and governments to convene an extraordinary session of the United Nations General Assembly to demand the disbanding of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as a – as the gravest – threat to world peace.

UG#575 - From Oily Sands to Greasy Palms

Robin Upton | 03-11-2011 18:44 | Tar Sands | Ecology | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Sheffield | World

Audio
Focussing on Canada's Tar Sands this week, we examine the murky reality of 'free trade', and interference by the Canadian Government in the European Climate Change legislation. Who makes and enforces these agreements, and who benefits? We look at how the SPP is being revamped for re-introduction after concerted efforts to kill it by citizens' action groups.

UG#572 - Monopoly and Money (Contradictions of Capitalism)

Robin Upton | 21-10-2011 14:42 | Globalisation | Policing | Social Struggles | Sheffield | World

Audio
If competition is such a good thing, why is it not tolerated in areas of government or law? Or in the money system, which functions as a highly profitable private business? And what about cartel agreements which align the interests of multi-national corporations firmly against the interests of consumers? Are corporations really competing to bring better products to market more cheaply, or are they competing for control of government to grant them privileges?
