World War IV: US Plans to Use Nuclear Weapons against Iran

C | 27.07.2006 16:41 | Lebanon War 2006 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Sheffield

Videocast of the presentation to the Perdana Global Peace Forum by Michel Chossudovsky.

This is a AVI version of the presentation by Michel Chossudovsky to the Perdana Global Peace Forum Conference, Criminalise War, Stop WW4, held in Kuala Lumpur, 20-22 June 2006.

Also on this subject is this article form February 2006, Is the Bush Administration Planning a Nuclear Holocaust? — Will the US launch "Mini-nukes" against Iran in Retaliation for Tehran's "Non-compliance"? by Michel Chossudovsky.

The original WMV version of this presentation doesn't play in free clients like mplayer and vlc without the non-free win32 codecs being installed, the original can be accessed on the perdana4peace.org web site, there are also other videos available.

Why was the conference called in opposition to World War IV? This is how the organisers explain their thinking:

Dr. Earl Tilford, Professor of History and a Fellow at the right wing Foundation for the Defence of Democracies wrote in June 24, 2004:

"World War IV is a total war on a global scale. World War IV seems complex but keep in mind during World War III (the Cold War) while American forces fought North Vietnamese regulars and National Liberation Front (Vietcong) guerrillas in South Vietnam, we also fought the Pathet Lao in Laos and Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.

From Greece and Yugoslavia to Korea and Vietnam and the Caribbean and jungles of South America, the Cold War involved a large number of nations and groups. Nevertheless, it all came together as part of a struggle between competing worldviews.

The 'War on Terror' is no less complicated and similarly encompassing. Since it is an Information Age War in which knowledge is power. It is essential to understand who we fight and what they aim to achieve. Our enemies are more than savage barbarians with a penchant for decapitating the innocent. They are integral to a concerted effort to redefine the world order.

This is World War IV. Forget the sleazy sickness of Abu Ghraib. Stop mouthing meaningless slogans like, 'Bush Lied, Soldiers Died.' Steel yourselves for a long bloody fight. This is a war we (the US) must not lose."

The threat of World War IV is real. Even now, war preparations against Iran are building up, despite the devastation and the thousands of lives lost by the invasion into Iraq. As Norman Podhoretz, a prominent neo-conservative, declared in his article World War IV: How It Started, What It means, and Why We Have to Win:

"...Iraq is only the second front …the second scene so to speak, of the first act of a five-act play. In World War II and then in World War III (the Cold War), we (the US) persisted in spite of impatience, discouragement, and opposition for as long as it took to win, and this is exactly what we have been called to do today in World War IV."

Of course the number, III or IV isn't the key issue, others have been refering to it as WWW3, for example in this article from the South Africial paper Business Day:

IF YOU are looking for reassurance at this time of international crisis, do not consult Newt Gingrich. "We are in the early stages of what I would describe as the third world war," says the former speaker of the US house of representatives, who is a member of the Pentagon’s defence policy board. Gingrich is not alone in his diagnosis. Dan Gillerman, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations (UN), said last week: "The third world war, I believe, has already started. What we’re seeing today in the Middle East is a chapter of it."

Even US President George Bush has casually endorsed the idea. He told a television interviewer last May that the passengers who fought back against their hijackers on September 11 2001 had staged "the first counterattack to world war three".

Any argument simultaneously associated with Gingrich, the Israeli ambassador to the UN and Bush is likely to be dismissed on those grounds alone in much of Europe. But the "third world war" crowd deserve a careful hearing. Essentially, they make two points. The first is that Islamist extremists are already waging a multifront war. Fighting is under way in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine — and a confrontation with Iran is looming.

The final film in Sheffield Indymedia's "Summer of Truth" film festival this comming Sunday is War and Globalization - The Truth Behind September 11, a lecture by Michel Chossudovsky from September 2003.
